If you want your manuscript to be considered, first and foremost, follow the submission guidelines of the publisher.
Secondly, it is always good to join a writers' group, particularly in your chosen genre (which for Krysia's Web Books is romance). There are several online writers' groups out there; you'll have to see which ones fit you best. Krysia's Web Books recommends using our message forum, especially if you'd like to become one of our authors. There's no place quite like the horse's mouth, so-to-speak. ;-)
KWB also recommends the The Romance Writers' Forum, moderated by romance writer Julie Harrington AKA "JewelTones". Julie is an extremely talented writer who works with several different genres, but in my opionion, she's really found her niche with romance. You can also ask Julie questions in Krysia's Web Forum; she's one of our treasured Global Moderators.
Another excellent resource for writers of romance, is ROMANCE WRITERS of AMERICA. The national website for romance writers, it's a 1-stop, bottomless resource, and KWB recommends this website as well.
Third, grow a thick skin and don't ever be shy. Rejection sucks. All of us at KWB have "been there, done that". And it's especially frustrating when you know your work is better than that lame novel you made the mistake of buying and reading! But it's a fact of the field. The best thing to do is to keep at it. Get back in the saddle (what is with the horse analogies today! LOL! *G*). Don't take constructive criticism of your work personally; it's an extremely helpful tool. Try critiquing another's work; picking out what doesn't flow right with you in someone else's project might make it easier to spot similiar mistakes in your own work. Jump in to writing challenges (found on writers' forums across the internet) whenever you have the time. There's nothing like freestyle writing to rattle the cage. Everyone's Muse gets stuck now and then.
Above all, enjoy it. Writing is fun. Reading is fun. If you don't think so, then you're in the wrong career. Think about it: There's nothing like being a writer. As a writer, you are god. You give... and you take away. You create... and you destroy. You provide an escape for millions of people. Think of the Power inside a good story. What's not to love about writing? (Okay, I know... But take it to the message forum. LOL! This is a pep talk. ;-)
Good luck, and write on!
